Shipwreck details

Name: TEXACO CARIBBEAN (AFTER SECTION)

Length 175.3 meter, width: 23.8 meter, draught: 9.8, tonnage 13604 ton
Load: ballast

Cause: Built in 1965 by kieler howaldtswerke, kiel. owned at time of loss by texaco panama inc. exploded, broke in two and both sections sank following a collision in thick fog with peruvian mv 'paracas'. 8 men lost from crew of 30. passage terneuzen for trinidad in ballast. next day the 'brandenburg' (qv) ran into the submerged wreckage and sank nearby. six and a half weeks later and despite the wks being marked by a wreck marking vessel and a ring of wk buoys, the 'niki' (qv) ran into the wreckage and sank. (msd).
