Cause: 26.2.16 built in 1916 by harland & wolff ltd, belfast. owned at time of loss by th epeninsular & orient steam navigation company. twin quadruple expansion engine of 1164 nhp, twin shaft. passage london for bombay. a brand-new ship, she left london on 26.2.16 and struck a mine on 27.2.16. 78 crew & 44 passengers lost. the candian liner empress of fort william attempted to assist but was herself mined and lost. (sibi).
