Shipwreck details

Name: GROSSER KURFURST

Length 112.8 meter, width: 15.8 meter, draught: 7.3, tonnage 6663 ton

Cause: Built in 1875 by wilhelmshaven dockyard, the german turret ironclad was a unit of a squadron of fourships commissioned on may 6th, 1878. she sank following a collision with german ironclad 'konig wilhelm' while on passage germany to turkish waters. 284 lives lost. (dods).
