Length 52.1 meter, width: 5.2 meter, draught: 3.6, tonnage 493 ton

Cause: Uc78 was depth charged & sunk by hm drifters 'our friend' & 'mary'. uc 78 was a ucii class submarine, built 1916 by ag vulcan, hamburg. sunk may 1918. mined. all 29 crew lost. uc 79 was also known to have been lost in this area in april 1918. (lost patrols, i mc cartney)

H2172/81 11.2.83 WK 37.4MTRS, IN GEN DEPTH 39MTRS, SHOWN IN 505608N, 013139E ON FRENCH SURVEY [K9065/6] OF 1981/82. POSSIBLY THIS WK. CHART AS WK 37MTRS IN 505606N, 013141E [OGB]. BR STD. HH100/351/21 24.8.04 DIVED IN LISTED POSN. THIS WK WAS FIRST LOCATED BY CMDR DAMANT IN AUGUST 1918. MINE CHUTES ARE EMPTY. ONE PROP HAS 'UC 77' EMBOSSED ON IT AND THE OTHER 'UC 79'. ALMOST CERTAINLY UC-79 WHICH WAS LOST IN THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL 1918. (R YOUNG, EMAIL DTD 16.8.04). NCA. 25.6.07 A UC SUBMARINE WAS LOCATED IN 5056.140N, 0131.58E APPROX BY CMDR DAMANT'S DIVE TEAM & CONCLUDED BY THE ADMIRALTY THAT IT WAS UC 78, HOWEVER POSSIBILITY REMAINS THAT IT COULD BE UC 79 WHICH DISAPPEARED IN APRIL 1918. (LOST PATROLS, I MC CARTNEY) SEP 2016/000076595 21.9.16 SHOWN AS WK 37MTRS IN 5056.119N, 0131.589E [WGD] ON FR474240 & FRENCH 7424. [ED 3, 2016]. AMEND TO REVISED POSN.
