Cause: Built in 1920 by swan hunter, wigham richardson & gemmel ltd, beverley. owned at time of loss by ellerman lines ltd. three boilers, two s turbines. passage port pirie for london. cargo of 2000 tons lead ingots, tinned fruit, wool, flour and frozen food. bombed and set on fire. beached on the s end of long sand, still burning. metals salvaged and vessel later dispersed. (sibi).
