Cause: Vessel, built 1878 by w denny & bros, was torpedoed & sunk by a german submarine while on passage alexandria for hull. 8 of the 47 crew were lost. owned at the time of loss by khedivial mail steamship co. (dods). sunk by german submarine 'ub 6'. (naval staff monographs vol.13).
