Cause: built in 1907 by sir j laing & sons ltd, sunderland. owned at time of loss by the british & argentianian s nav co. four boilers, triple expansion engine of 470hp, single shaft. passage hull for london & buenos aires. in ballast. struck a mine laid by uc-1. attempt made to beach the vessel but a second exposion blew off the prop and rudder. tugs attempted to move the ship but a bulkhead collapsed and she sank.

LEAST E/S DEPTH 64 IN GEN DEPTH 86 - 92FT. SCOUR DEPTH 14 - 22FT. MARKED SURFACE SLICK OBSERVED OVER WK. (HMS SCOTT, HI 105/61). AMEND TO SW 10FMS 1FT. LC 1543. H4629/71 21.12.72 DIVED. THOUGHT TO BE EL ARGENTINO BECAUSE OF LENGTH. BOW TO MIDSHIPS SECTION IS UPRIGHT BUT BADLY SMASHED. AFT SECTION LISTS TO PORT AND SMASHED THROUGHOUT LENGTH. SOME ENGINE ROOM MATERIAL AND PROP HAS BEEN SALVAGED. SEABED IS VERY SOFT AND BOW IS ALMOST COVERED. LIES 290/110 DEG. (E GILES, UNDERMARINE OPS, 1972). 31.7.74 AMEND TO SW 18.6MTRS [LAT]. NC 1543.
