Cause: Built in 1927 by cochrane & sons ltd, selby owned at time of loss by galleon shipping co. one boiler, triple expansion engine, single shaft. machinery aft by amos & smith ltd, hull. passage newcastle-upon-tyne for dieppe. cargo coal. sunk following collision with swedish ss oscar garthon about 3m e by s of the corton ltv. (sibi & th).

Details measurements/cartography: H3903/32 6.6.32 WK 32FT IN POSN 085DEGS, 4.58M FROM CORTON CHURCH. (TH). BR STD. H3903/32 20.3.33 LOCATED BY TH IN A POSN WITH CORTON CH BRG 265DEGS DISTANT 4.58M, & FOUND TO BE ON HER BEAM ENDS ACROSS THE TIDE STREAM. CARRYING 63FT LWST. SURVEY AFTER DISPERSAL SHOWED THAT THE WRECK HAD SUNK BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE SURROUNDING GROUND, AND THERE IS A DEPTH OF NOT LESS THAN 105FT OVER IT. SDGS OF 16-16.5FMS WERE OBTAINED ON THE GROUND CLEAR OF THE SCOUR HOLE, AND A DEPTH OF 18.5FMS IN THE SCOUR. WHEN THE STREAM IS RUNNING AT STRENGTH, THE POSN OF THE WRECK IS STILL CLEARLY MARKED BY A TIDE RIP, BUT OF MUCH REDUCED INTENSITY. (TH EX 3067/32). AMEND TO NDW. BR STD. H3903/32 27.8.51 LUCAS WIRE DRIFT SWEEP BY SMLS 325 AND 323 ON 4.7.51 IN 523137N, 015155E USING HSA. CLEAR AT 83FT, FOUL AT 85FT. LEAST E/S DEPTH 84FT, GENERAL DEPTH 107FT. HEIGHT ABOVE SEABED 24FT. SCOUR 5FT ON N SIDE. (HMS SHARPSHOOTER, 20.8.51). AMEND TO WK 14FMS. BR STD. H909/60 31.5.60 NOW CHARTED AS SW 14FMS. NC 1504. H4629/71 20.12.71 FIXED BY HIFIX & DECCA. LYING E/W ON HER SIDE, WITH DECK TO N. STERN INTACT, BUT REST OF HULL FROM 30FT FORWARD OF STERN IS COLLAPSING & IN WEAK STATE. FORWARD PART IN SCOUR, & HARDLY ABOVE SEABED. SCOUR EXTENDS 20-30FT. H1942/80 2.9.82 EXAM'D 28.2.82 IN 523136N, 015155E [OGB] USING HIFIX/6 [2 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 22.1MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 31MTRS. SCOUR DEPTH 4MTRS. HYDROSEARCH VERTICAL HT 8.9MTRS. LENGTH 58.6MTRS, BEAM 15.7MTRS. LYING 080/260DEGS. VERY BROKEN UP, BUT UPRIGHT IN A DEEP SCOUR. THERE IS A MAST ABOUT QUARTER OF THE WAY FROM BOW, WHICH IS TO THE E. (HMS BULLDOG, HI 11). BR STD. 15.12.87 NOW CHARTED AS WK 22.0 MTRS. NE 1543. SEP 2016/000091758 20.07.17 EXAM'D 19.12.16; IN 5231.640N, 0151.790E [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 30.53MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 34MTRS, LENGTH 30.8MTRS, WIDTH 5.9MTRS, HEIGHT 5MTRS, ORIENTATION 258/078 DEGS. WRECK IS BROKEN AND PARTIALLY BURIED. (GARDLINE, HI 1494). AMEND TO DW 30.5MTRS IN REVISED POSN.
