Cause: built in 1936 by the burntisland shipbulding & engineering co ltd, burntisland, with two boilers, triple expansion engine of 197nhp, single shaft. machinery by d rowan & co ltd., glasgow. owned at time of loss by stephenson, clarke & associates ltd. passage london for sunderland in convoy. sunk by large explosion under the hull, either mine or torpedo. 5 lives lost. BR STD. 2.4.09 WK HAS BEEN POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED AS HORSTED, BASED ON MATCHING MACHINERY, LENGTH AND CORRESPONDING ARTEFACTS RECOVERED INCLUDING CROCKERY WITH SHIP'S & OWNER'S NAMEPRINTED ON IT. (CARL RACEY, E-MAIL DTD 30.3.09) NCA. SEP 2016/000053291 11.10.16 EXAM'D 21.3.16; IN 5353.767N, 0015.751E [WGD].
