Cause: built in 1897 by fairfield. one x 12pdr, five x 6pdrs, 2 torpedo tubes. foundered while steering stern first towards shore, after ramming and sinking uc 75.

SANK IN 535800N, 001000E, APPROX. (AUTH'Y UNKNOWN). H4523/26 16.10.26 INS NDW (PA) (1918) IN 535800N, 001000E. H5084/77 18.3.80 EXAM'D 6.12.79 IN 535646N, 001001E [OGB] USING HIFIX/6 [2 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 33.1 IN GEN DEPTH 36MTRS. DCS3 HT 2.3MTRS, LENGTH 55MTRS. PARTIALLY BURIED MAKING IT AN INDISTINCT SONAR CONTACT. LIES 110/290 DEG ON SAND RIPPLES. SHOALER SANDWAVES EXIST 5 CABLES TO THE S. (HMS EGERIA, HI 64/79). BR STD. HH100/351/05 29.5.92 WK IN 535624N, 000957E IDENTIFIED BY TELEGRAPH AND PRESSURE GAUGES AS HMS FAIRY. (R J COLLINSON). HH100/351/06 8.4.93 WK OF HMS FAIRY LOCATED IN 535618.5N, 000949E [OGB] USING DECCA. SETTLED WELL INTO SEABED. HIGHEST PART IS RUDDER STOCK, WHICH STANDS 2MTRS HIGH. (G WADSWORTH, 1.3.93). HH100/351/08 20.7.94 SMALL GAUGE RECOVERED WITH `DYNAMO OIL GAUGE - HMS FAIRY' HAND ENGRAVED ON ITS BACK. (B THOMPSON, LTR DTD 18.7.94). SEP 2016/000053291 12.10.16 EXAM'D 21.3.16; IN 5356.776N, 0009.954E [WGD]. LEAST WCD DEPTH 32.69MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 35MTRS, LENGTH 75.6MTRS, WIDTH 17.0MTRS, HEIGHT 2.49MTRS, ORIENTATION 293/113 DEGS. WRECK IS FAIRLY BROKEN UP AND PARTLY BURIED. SOME REMAINS OF BOW PRESENT, BOILERS AND ENGINE VISIBLE AND CAN JUST ABOUT SEE THE OUTLINE OF THE HULL. THERE IS A MODERATE MAGNETIC ANOMALY. (MMT, HI 1473). AMEND NDW 32MTRS IN REVISED POSITION.
