Cause: ex-hebburn '38. built in 1924 by wood, skinner & co, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by the stanhope ss co (j a billmeir & co ltd, managers). two boilers, triple expansion engine of 359hp, single shaft. machinery by ne marine eng co ltd. passage zeebrugge for the tyne. in ballast. bombed and machine gunned by german aircraft. 25 men lost. (llww1 & sibi). was in convoy at time of loss. (s old).

[NO DATE] WK [8977] PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT TO BE 'STANBURN'. HH100/351/18 8.4.02 POSN 5359.667N, 0008.530W [WGD]. VERY LARGE WRECK, STANDS HIGH OFF THE SANDY SEABED. THREE BOILERS AND ENGINE UPRIGHT. BOWS S. BELL RECOVERED WITH NAME 'HEBBURN'. (A C JACKSON & C A RACEY). NCA. HH100/351/20 5.9.03 VESSEL'S NAME CHANGED FROM HEBBURN TO STANBURN IN 1938.
