Cause: built of iron in 1872 by a leslie & co. owned at time of loss by charlton, mcallum & co, newcastle-upon-tyne. two boilers, compound engine of 99nhp. passage bilbao for the tyne. sank following collision with either the german ss friese or the glasgow registered ss toward in good weather conditions. one man lost. (dods & sibi).

HH100/351/20 7.7.03 HH100/351/20 7.7.03 LOCATED IN LISTED POSN. APPEARS TO STAND 8MTRS HIGH BY E/S. (M KEARNE, EMAIL DTD 2.7.03). NCA. 12.7.06 12.7.06 DIVED WITH BOWS IN 5041.526N, 0020.583E [WGD]. STERN LIES IN APPROX 50 41.503N, 0020.595E. AT HW HAS 21MTRS OVER WITH THE SEABED AT 35MTRS. FAIRLY WELL INTACT FROM BOWS TO MIDSHIPS WHERE THE WRECK BECOMES BROKEN. TWO BOILERS AND THE ENGINE STAND PROUD. TOWARDS THE STERN STANDS 2MTRS ABOVE THE SEABED AND IS WELL SILTED. BOWS LIE TOWARDS 162 DEGS. A BOTTLE WAS RECOVERED FROM A NEWCASTLE BREWERY AND A BROKEN PLATE MADE IN NEWCASTLE. A PIECE OF WASHAND BASIN WITH MARKED 'HAROLD' WAS ALSO RECOVERED. (J SMITH, E-MAIL DTD 11.7.06).
