Cause: vessel, built 1896 by richardson, duck & co. and owned at the time of loss by sota y aznar, was torpedoed & sunk by german submarine, whilst en-route middlesborough to bilbao & barcelona. (ww1sl, ll ww1, dods & mr v bonfante).

H7221/37 10.11.37 OROPESA SWEEP HEAVILY FOULED WK WHEN SET AT 60FT, TWICE CLEARED WITH SWEEP SET TO 49FT. NO SWIRLS E SEEN. POSN 504023N, 001800E. (HMS FLINDERS, 26.10.37 & HMS KELLET).
