Cause: Beached after losing rudder in severe storm and mutiny by crew. was on maiden voyage from texel to jakarta.

(STATUTORY INSTRUMENT NO 57/74). BR STD. H1291/82 3.11.82 ATTEMPTS BEING MADE TO RAISE SUFFICIENT FUNDS TO SALVAGE 'AMSTERDAM' AND RETURN IT TO HOLLAND. AN EXPORT LICENCE HAS BEEN GRANTED. SHIP IS VIRTUALLY INTACT FROM UPPER GUN DECK DOWN. (THE OBSERVER, 24.10.82). PHOTOGRAPH IN FILE. H1291/83 15.7.83 PROPOSAL MADE TO COMMENCE EXCAVATION WORK IN 1984. H1291/82 22.8.84 FURTHER EXCAVATION PLANNED FOR 1985 IF FUNDS AVAILABLE. INTEND LEAVING SHEET PILING, ALREADY DRIVEN AROUND WK, AND DIVING TOWER IN POSN DURING COMING WINTER. (SAVE THE AMSTERDAM FOUNDATION, 15.8.84). NCA. H3318/80 26.7.85 DIVING PLATFORM CONSTRUCTED VERY CLOSE S OF WK ON WHICH LFL R 10S ESTABLISHED. VISIBLE FROM 2 MILES. (TH, GT YARMOUTH, HN 1.7.85). - NM 2099/85. H3318/80 30.3.90 DIVING PLATFORM, WITH LIGHT, HAS COLLAPSED. REMAINS WILL BE CUT DOWN AND SITE CLEARED. ONLY A HALF COFFERDAM AND ITS CROSS BEAMS REMAIN ADJACENT TO THE WK. (P BARRIE, LETTER REC'D VIA DEPT OF TRANSPORT). DELETE LIGHT.

- NM 1140/90. 10.3.93 PROPOSAL NOW MADE TO EXCAVATE THE WK AS AN ENTITY AND TO TOW IT TO AMSTERDAM SLUNG UNDERWATER UNDER A RAFT AND THERE TO EXCAVATE ITS CONTENTS WITHIN A NEW CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL CENTRE. (THE OBSERVER, 7.3.93). 17.1.06 RECORD REVIEWED. REVISED CONVERSION FOR POSN QUOTED IN STATUTORY INSTRUMENT 57/74 IS 5050.778N, 0031.556E [OGB] OR 5050.814N, 0031.459E [WGD]. AMEND POSN OF REST'D AREA (WK NOT CHARTED). BR STD. 3.12.13 LOCATED 19.8.13 IN 5050.801N, 0031.459E [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH DRIES 2.14 IN GEN DEPTH DRIES 0.8MTR. SCOUR 1.3MTRS DEEP ON EASTERN SIDE. LENGTH 48.8MTRS, WIDTH 14.7MTRS, HT 1.0MTR. LIES 146/326 WITH BOWS NW SLIGHT MAGNETIC ANOMALY. (EGS, HI 1312). NCA.
