Shipwreck details

Name: HMS ANNE

Length 46 meter, width: 12.2 meter, tonnage 1051 ton

Cause: 27.7.1690 built in 1678 at chartham dockyard by phineas pett ii. a third-rate ship. damaged severely at the battle of beachy head (27.7.1690) and subsequently beached in rye bay. was set alight to prevent capture. she was the only british loss in the battle. was extensively salvaged and all ordnance removed. a failied attempt was made by the admiralty to sell the burnt remains (srn & eh).

H2529/74 6.8.74 AREA WITHIN 75MTRS OF 555322N, 004146E [OGB] DESIGNATED AS ONE PROTECTED UNDER HISTORIC WK ACT, 1973. (STATUTORY INSTRUMENT 910/74). BR STD. H2417/84 16.1.84 OWNERSHIP TRANSFERRED FROM MOD TO NAUTICAL MUSEUMS TRUST BY DEED DATED 10.6.83. (D/NLC 63/2/42, LOOSE MINUTE 10.1.84). 24.6.91 CHARTED POSN IS INCORRECT. COMPRISES OF SHIP-SHAPED OUTLINE OF TIMBERS, 43.5MTRS LONG AND PROTRUDING ABOUT 0.5MTR ABOVE SEDIMENTS. VISIBLE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS INCLUDE FRAMES, INNER AND OUTER PLANKING AND POSSIBLE MAST STUMPS. THERE IS NO MARINE GROWTH ON THESE TIMBERS. (ADU REPORT 91/2). NCA YET. 3.10.91 CORRECT POSN IS 505325N, 004154.5E [OGB]. (ADU, 26.9.91). AMEND POSN.

BR STD. 30.9.13 LIES HEELED OVER TO THE WEST, WITH MORE OF THE PORT SIDE REMAINING THAT THE STBD. LOWER PART OF HULL IS EXTENSIVELY PRESERVED, WITH LENGTH 44.65MTRS, WIDTH 11MTRS, HT 4MTRS. (EH). 3.12.13 LOCATED 12.8.13 IN 5053.462N, 0041.766E [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH DRIES 1.05 IN GEN DEPTH DRIES 0.9MTR. SCOUR 0.35MTR DEEP ON E SIDE. LENGTH 32.0MTRS, WIDTH 11.0MTRS, HT 0.45MTR. LIES 000/180 DEGS. SLIGHT MAGNETIC ANOMALY. OUTLINE VISIBLE. (EGS, HI 1312). AMEND WK DRIES 1.1MTR.
