Cause: built in 1951 by eriksbergs m/v a/b. owned at time of loss by tschuid & eitzen. passage wilhelmshaven for libya. had three huge explosions which blew a huge hole in the side. was abandoned in flames. taken in tow by tug meeching and was eventually beached a mile from the foot of beachy head. suffered a further explosion and was left to burn out. declared ctl. forepart was refloated and taken to spanish shipbreakers for demolition. afterpart was refloated in june the following year and was too towed to spain for scrapping. 3 men lost. (msd).
