Name: AFGHANISTAN (PROBABLY)

Length 88.7 meter, width: 12.8 meter, draught: 7.3, tonnage 2286 ton
Load: general and mixed goods

Cause: Built in 1888 by richardson, duck & co. owned at the time of loss by british & eastern shipping. passage hamburg for san diego. encountered dense fog and had anchored, making the correct sound signal. was rammed by british battleship hms caesar which was proceeding in company with other units of the channel fleet. sank immediately. 17 men lost. (dods & sibi).

(HMS BEAGLE, HI 55/74). HA141/004/007/01 7.4.93 WK OF LARGE MASTED VESSEL, WITH VERY PROMINENT BOWSPRIT, DIVED TWICE IN 504305N, 010358E. REASONABLY INTACT AND LIES WITH SLIGHT LIST TO PORT. SOME CEMENT IN BARRELS - WOOD HAS LONG SINCE ROTTED - SPILLED ONTO SEABED. NOT POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED BUT THOUGHT PROBABLY THE WK OF 'AFGHANISTAN'. STANDS 7MTRS HIGH IN GEN DEPTH 36MTRS. (B J WATKINS, 4.4.93). CHART AS USC 28MTRS.

DCS3 HT 4.5MTRS, LENGTH 120MTRS, WIDTH 25MTRS. LIES 080/260DEGS. MAINLY INTACT BUT SURROUNDED BY FIELD OF DEBRIS. (HMS BEAGLE, HI 611). NCA. 22.4.14 EXAM'D 17.11.13 IN 5043.029N, 0103.864E [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 27.41 IN GEN DEPTH 32MTRS. SCOUR 1MTR DEEP EXTENDS 130MTRS TOWARDS 225 DEGS. LENGTH 130MTRS, WIDTH 28MTRS, HT 5.2MTRS. LIES 085/265 DEGS WITH BOWS W. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMLAY.
