Shipwreck details

Name: LA COMBATTANTE (STERN SECTION)

Length 85.3 meter, width: 8.8 meter, draught: 2.4, tonnage 1050 ton

Cause: Built in 1942 by fairfield sb co ltd as the 'hunt' class destroyer hms haldon. transferred to the free french forces in 12.1942. 3-drum boilers, turbine engines for 27.5kts. four 4 inch guns in two twin mounts, quadruple 2 pounder mounting aft of funnel and single mounting in the bow, six 20mm aa oerlikons in three twin mounts. twin 21 inch torpedo tubes. four depth charge throwers & two depth charge ramps. mined and broke in two. 60 men lost. (sibi, warship losses of ww1 & j zang).

HH090/579/01 9.2.93 NOT FOUND. (SEATEAM, HI 579). AMEND TO FOUL. BR STD. HH090/593/01 22.12.93 NOT FOUND. (OCEONICS (UK) LTD., HI 593). NCA. HH100/351/18 6.6.02 DIVED IN 5322.190N, 0101.870E [WGD] USING GPS. STANDS 2-3MTRS ABOVE BOTTOM IN GEN DEPTH 11MTRS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. THIS AREA IS THE STERN. CONSISTS OF BROKEN WRECKAGE WHICH INCLUDES TWO TURBINES, PROPSHAFTS AND WINCHES. THERE IS A DEBRIS FIELD TO THE NORTH FOR APPROX 100MTRS. SEABED SAND. (K SMITH). AMEND TO NDW IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. HH100/351/19 6.1.03 DIVED IN 5322.272N, 0101.597E [WGD] USING GPS. THIS IS THE POSN OF ONE TURBINE. STANDS 2MTRS HIGH BY E/S AND DEPTH GAUGE. TURBINE IS 3MTRS BY 2MTRS. SCOUR 1MTR DEEP. SEABED WHITE SAND. DEBRIS EXTENDS 100MTRS N AND 20MTRS OF THIS POSN OR FROM 5322.06N TO 5322.600N AND FROM 0101.680E TO 0101.660E [WGD]. (K SMITH). AMEND TO WK 8MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. SEP 2019/000300377 17.12.19 EXAM'D 18.7.19 IN 5322.253N 0101.577E [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 10.81 MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 11 MTRS, HT 0.8 MTRS.
