Length 64 meter, width: 6.4 meter, draught: 2.1, tonnage 400 ton

Cause: Built in 1900 by armstrong, whitworth & co, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by the admiralty. steam turbines of 10000 ihp, quadruple shaft with three (?two) propellors on each shaft for 35.6 knots. machinery by parson's turbine co. passage newcastle-upon-tyne for portmouth on trials. broke in two after buckling midships in heavy weather when conducting trials with builder's men onboard and quickly sank. of complement of 54 and 25 contractors, only twelve men recovered from a small dinghy by ss harlington. broke in two due, it was thought, to a boiler explosion. Details measurements/cartography: WAS PASSING CLOSE W OF OUTER DOWSING LTV, ON SOUTHERLY HEADING, WHEN A CLOUD OF STEAM WAS OBSERVED AND THE SHIP BROKE IN TWO AND QUICKLY SANK IN 10FMS. FORWARD PART OF VESSEL WAS LOCATED IN 15FMS [LWST] IN POSN S 31 DEG W FROM OUTER DOWSING LTV, 1 7/8 MILES, BY A DIVER FROM SWEDISH SALVAGE VESSEL HERAKLES LATER IN 1901. LAY BOTTOM UP WITH CLEAN BREAK THROUGH HULL NEAR BOILERS. STERN PORTION NOT FOUND. (NHB - EXTRACT FROM MARCH'S BRITISH DESTROYERS). OUTER DOWSING LTV WAS MOORED IN 532700N, 010506E IN 1901. NCA. 29.8.03 DATA RE-ASSESSED. POSN AMENDED TO 1MINUTE W OF POSN OF OUTER DOWSING LTV IN 1901. GIVES POSN 532700N, 0104.100E [OGB] FOR FILING ONLY.
