Cause: built in 1896 by wigham richardson & co ltd, sunderland. owned at time of loss by the city of cork ss packet co ltd. four boilers, four cylinder, triple expansion engine of 486 nhp, single shaft. passage liverpool for cork. torpedoed by ub-64 with loss of 10 lives. (sii).positional analysis: ub64 position (ktb) plots 9.6nm se of this wreck. the master's report of the sinking (tna adm 137/1516) gives a position which plots 2.9nm ne of the wreck.archival analysis: the master stated the ship was hit port side in the stokehold and sank in four minutes. the u-boat then surfaced and approached the survivors but was driven off by hms kestrel (tna adm 137/1516). ub64 ktb states the ship was hit in the after part. the ktbrefers to having to crash dive on the approach of a destroyer

BA 44. 15.2.23 WRECK SURVEYED 25/5/2019: MBES DATA SHOWS STEAMSHIP BROKEN IN HALF AMIDSHIPS. PROBABLY UPRIGHT WITH THE FWD SECTION PARTIALLY BURIED ALONG STBD SIDE. LENGTH 82MTRS, WIDTH 12-13MTRS WHICH IS CONSISTENT WITH VESSEL "INNISFALLEN". PHOTOS SHOW TO BE SMALL FERRY/LINER WITH CENTRAL SUPERSTRUCTURE, THE M/B SCAN COULD BE INTERPRETED AS BEING SIMILAR.
