Cause: ex-narrung. built in 1896 by sunderland shipbuilding co ltd, sunderland. owned at time of loss by mexico ss co ltd. four boilers, quardruple expansion engine of 516 nhp, single shaft. passage liverpool and milford haven for alexandria. torpedoed by u 101. 29 men lost. (sibi & dods).positional analysis: u101's ktb position plots 5nm nw ofthis wreck. the report by ss war bracken in irish sea (tna adm 137/1514) gives the position where four survivors from mexico city were found. it plots 8.6nm nw ofthe wreck.archival analysis: the few survivors stated ship was hit in region of no2 hold, probably on starboard side and ship sank at once by the bow(tna adm 1514). u101 's ktb states the course of the ship was 21 odeg. this is consistent with the orientation of the wreck. mexico city carried copper and may have been salvaged in the past.

THE WRECK IS A CLOSE FIT ON WIDTH BUT IS SHORTER ON LENGTH. THE FORE SECTION LOOKS TO HAVE BROKEN OFF, MOST LIKELY WHEN THE SHIP IMPACTED THE SEABED. BELIEVED TO BE WRECK OF "MEXICO CITY".
