Cause: built of iron in 1877 by hanna of glasgow. owned at time of loss by ayr steam shipping co. one boiler, compound exansion engine of 60 nhp, single shaft. machinery by d rowan, glasgow. passage llandulais for ardrossan. foundered. (sibi). caught in a severe sea, so much water being shipped that the fires were put out. became waterlogged and was taken in tow by onyx which was in company. the tow parted off st ann's head, the crew took to the boat and the afton went down. (a corkill).
