The swimming lake on this campsite is exclusively for camping guests of The Wilgenplas. Het recreation resort the Wilgenplas is located in a lake area that is created by excavation for peat extraction. Characteristic for the area are the vegetated islands, legakkers and petholes. On the westside, direction Zogwetering, is a strip agricultural land between the recreation resort and the buildings of Maarssen. On the east side border the site on the Bethunepolder, a agricultural area where seepage water is extracted ten needs of the drinking water preparation. Het entire area is in use as recreation. The water is used for water sports without motor (well whisper boats, sailing, canoeën, surfing) fishing and swimming.

In this case it concerns the intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli (E.coli) and intestinal enterococci, which occur in the feces of both animals and humans. A suddenly high value is often related to bird droppings in the water, for example, but can certainly also have other causes. It is unwise to swim in water where these values exceed the standards. The water manager also inspects the bathing water areas for other types of pollution, such as blue-green algae or other toxic algae and general safety features.
