(mr collins ltr dtd 11.12.74). name given as irish plane, ex- arena [1942], ex- point arena [1940], ex- democracy [1937], ex- jupiter. built 1917 by standard shipbuilding corp., shooters island, new york, with 3 cylinder triple expansion engine, 4 boilers, single shaft. owned at time of loss by irish shipping co., dublin. passage phildelphia for cork. went ashore during gale following failure of steering gear. crew rescued. remains sold to hammond lane scrap metal company & broken up. (sii) tonnage given as 700tons. 31 crew rescued. built at spooter's isle, new york. cargo included cars & typewriters. (shipwrecks of the irish coast)
