Cause: ex-san mateo '01, ex-mikhaiul romm '93. built in 1988 by astilleros espanoles sa, sestao. owned at time of loss by aksay denizcilik ve ticaret as (askay shipping and trading co), majuro, marshall islands. 7 cylinder oil engine of 5320 bhp, single shaft. passage for ghent. was being overtaken by m bulk carrier 'general grot-rowecki' (23409 gt) when allegedly altered to port. bulker altered to port and went full astern but struck ece on the port side. took 30 deg list to port. crew recovered. later sank while under tow of m rescue & salvage vessel abeilles liberte. diving report showed a 2 by 5mtr hold in no 2 port wing tank.
