Cause: vessel, built 1981 by austin & pickersgill ltd. owned at time of loss by the pakistan national shipping corporation. began to take in water in for'd hold when cargo shifted during storm force winds. some containers were lost overboard. all 40 crew were rescued by three royal navy helicopters. vessel sank shortly after last person was winched to safety. some of the chemical cargo washed ashore along the s coast of england causing a hazard to beachcombers. (msd). forward hold flooded as result of one of the containers washed overboard which was still attached to the ship by a hawser swung back into ship's side splitting plates.
