The bathing water location Bovenwijde is located to the east of the provincial road N334 Zwartsluis – Giethoorn and is on the island middle in the Bovenwijde. The swimming zone consists of a by perkoenpaalen demarcated part of the lake south of the island. The island is exclusively sailing accessible. There is no sandy beach present. The water is accessible from the perkoenpaalenrand and jetty. De Bovenwijde is part of naturereserve de Wieden that is located in the head of Overijssel. Net als de Beulakkerwijde en de Belterwijde, was de Bovenwijde former a swamp area. Then the peat extraction in the 18th century his entry did its the peat in these wetlands excavated.
