Cause: 1.8.83 built in 1874 by palmer's co. owned at time of loss by macintyre bros & co. compound inverted engine of 140 nhp. passage madras for london. broke propeller shaft on 1.8.83, 12 miles off cape st vincent. was towed to lisbon by a passing ship. was recovered to england by s tug recovery but came into collision with french liner st germain (3659 gt) and sank within 5 minutes. the master, 16 crew and 1 passenger lost. 11 rescued by 'recovery'.
