Cause: ex-amaya, ex-julio. built in 1888 by w doxford & sons, sunderland. owned at time of los by cia nav gascuna. three boilers, triple expansion engine of 176 nhp, single shaft. machinery by the builders. passage ayr for bayonne. stopped when condenser pipes fractured and allowed water to enter the engine room. ss british chancellor made four attempts to take her in tow but the hawser parted on each occasion, villasandino's windlass was broken and bollards torn away. crew recovered and vessel went ashore. (sibi & cornish shipwrecks).
