Cause: 6.6.1944 built in 1941 by the charleston navy yard. babcock & wilcox boilers, turbine engines of 50,000shp for 36.5 knots, twin shaft. four 5 inch, fur 40mm, seven 20mm and five torpedo tubes. mined whilst engaged in the operations consequent upon the landing of the allied army in france on 'd day', 6.6.1944. two other us destroyers, the 'glennon' and the 'meredith', were also mined in the same area on the same day.
