Cause: vessel, built 1916, was blown up by own mines. 19 lives lost. (shipwrecks of ne coast, r young)

(ISS, HI 9/70) H2433/71 25.9.74 AREA CLOSE SOUNDED BY E/S AND INTENSIVELY EXAMINED USING MS47 SONAR. NOTHING FOUND, EXCEPT GOOD BOTTOM CONTACT. (HMS EGERIA, 1974). 10.11.89 REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN LOCATED BY LOCAL DIVERS. (ANN COLLINS, BBC TV, NEWCASTLE, TELECON). NO POSN GIVEN. HH242/350/01 10.11.89 LOCATED IN 545523N, 012032W [OGB]. BELIEVED TO CONTAIN UNEXPLODED MINES/TORPEDOES. EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL UNIT RECOMMENDS NO ANCHORING/FISHING WITHIN RADIUS OF 1000YDS. (TYNE TEES CG MRSC, TLX DTD 10.11.89). HH242/350/01 17.11.89 LIES IN ABOVE REPD POSN, BROKEN INTO 3 PARTS, EACH WITH ABOUT 100FT BETWEEN THEM. CONNING TOWER, WHICH IS LISTING ABOUT 60DEGS, IS HIGHEST PART AND STANDS SOME 4MTRS HIGH IN GEN DEPTH 10MTRS. MUCH WRECKAGE SCATTERED AROUND AND MANY ANCHORS AND CABLE HAVE BEEN LOST IN THE VICINITY. UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE, INCLUDING A TORPEDO, HAS BEEN LOCATED IN WRECKAGE WHICH LIES SE/NW, APPROX, BOW SE. (LT HEALEY, OIC EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL UNIT, TELECON 16/17.11.89). PORT OF SUNDERLAND NM OF 13.11.89 REFERS. INS AS WRECKAGE, 350FT X 100FT, LYING NW/SE, IN 545523N, 012032W [OGB].

LIES 014/194DEGS. BROKEN WK WITH MAIN PART LYING ABOUT 60MTRS S OF A CLUSTER OF SEVERAL SMALLER CONTACTS. SEABED OF OCCASIONAL ROCK EXPOSURE WITH THIN COVER OF FINE SANDS AND MUDS. (GARDLINE, HI 796). BR STD.POSITIONS BELOW THIS POINT ARE IN DEGREES, MINUTES AND DECIMALS OF A MINUTE
