Shipwreck details

Name: U 87

Length 65.8 meter, width: 6.4 meter, tonnage 998 ton

Cause: rammed and cut in two by hm patrol boat p 56.sm u-87 was a submarine serving in the imperial german navy in world war one. u-87 was engaged in the naval warfare.on 25 dec 17, she was rammed, shelled and depth charged by the patrol vessel p 56 in the irish sea with a loss of 43 men.

LEAST E/S DEPTH 91 IN GEN DEPTH 97MTRS. NO SCOUR. DCS3 HT 8MTRS. SONAR TRACE APPEARS TO CONFIRM THIS AS A SUBMARINE, THOUGH NOT IN TWO PARTS. LIES 160/340DEGS. (HMS FAWN, HI 3) CHART AS WK 89MTRS. BR STD. HH100/351/03 22.5.91 DIVED ON IN 525631N, 050529W. CONFIRMED AS A SMALL SUBMARINE. (V P HAIGH, 30.10.90). HH100/351/16 17.8.00 PART OF VESSEL POSSIBLY LOCATED 200MTRS S. (ANDREW OWEN/D METCALFE TELECON 16.8.00). SEE [58682].
