Cause: built in 1915 by w kaiserl., danzig as type ue 1 minelayer. reported as missing after being sent to lay mines and return in to base. did not return or send any report. thought to have been sunk by own mines. (k heath) stated to have been sunk by gunfire from 4 rn trawlers while laying a minefield. (diver magazine oct '10)

LIES WELL SUNK INTO SEABED BUT WITH BOW SHOWING WELL CLEAR. (I G WHITTAKER, 1.9.93). HH100/351/08 20.7.94 HH100/351/08 20.7.94 WRECK IS PROBABLY U77 (UE-1 CLASS MINELAYER). LOCATED IN 560341N, 022942W [WGD]. LEAST DEPTH BY DIVE COMPUTER 40 IN GEN DEPTH 44MTRS. NO SCOUR. BOWS ANGLED UPRIGHT COMPLETE WITH WOODEN DECK. HYDROPLANES AT HARD DIVE POSN. PERISCOPES FULLY EXTENDED AND BENT BACK. ALL HATCHES CLOSED. ELEVATED GUN AFT OF CONNING TOWER. STERN BURIED IN SEA BED.
