Cause: type viic. armament of 1 x 88mm and 1 x 20mm gun, 5 torpedo tubes. oil engines, twin shaft. depth charged by hmsns natal, lt cdr d g hall, using squid. natal had left the tyne only four hours earlier on her first commission. u714 only sank two vessels, norwegian minesweeping trawler nordhav ii of 425 tons, & swedish ss magne, 1226 tons, before being sunk the same day. all 50 hands lost. (sibi) sinking credited to hms natal & hms wivern. (i mccartney).
