Cause: built in 1887 by a & j inglis, glasgow. owned at time of loss by carron co. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 316 nhp, single shaft. passage london for leith. torpedoed by uc 17. two explosions occurred aft and the stern was blown off. the ship sank some 7 minutes later. 4 men lost. (sibi).

(GARDLINE, TLX 19.6.88, HI 414A). H6330/87 14.11.88 EXAM'D 5.9.88 USING TRISPONDER. TWO DISTINCT AREAS OF WRECKAGE - MAIN PART IN 545023N, 011030W [OGB]. SWEPT CLEAR AT 35.8, FOUL AT 36.2MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 35.9 IN GEN DEPTH 41.1MTRS. SCOUR DEPTH 41.2MTRS. DCS3 HT 5.5MTRS, LENGTH 50MTRS, BEAM 7MTRS. LIES 055/235 DEG. SECOND PART IN 545024N, 011033W. LEAST E/S DEPTH 38.3MTRS. LIES 043/223 DEG. LENGTH 18MTRS, BEAM 4MTRS. (GARDLINE SURVEYS, HI 414A). POSSIBLY TWO WRECKS. INS AS SW 32MTRS IN 545024N, 011032W. BR STD. HH100/351/08 WK IN 545018.6N, 011039W DIVED AUGUST 1991 AND THOUGHT TO BE WK OF SS THAMES. CARGO INCLUDES LEAD-BASED INGOTS, EARTHENWARE JARS, ASSORTED BOTTLES AND STEEL PIPES. LIES WITH BOW TO W. STERN FAIRLY INTACT AND STANDING ABOUT 4MTRS ABOVE SEABED. ENGINE AND BOILERS ALSO STAND 4MTRS HIGH AND BOW SECTION LIES SEPARATELY NORTH OF THE STBD SIDE. REMAINDER OF WK ONLY STANDS 1 TO 3MTRS HIGH. A MOUND OF STEEL PIPES, 2 TO 3MTRS HIGH, LIES BETWEEN THE BOW AND MAIN WRECKAGE (K A LAWRENCE).
