Cause: built in 1876 by m pearce & co of stockton-upon-tees. owned at time of loss by the general steam navigation co. single boiler, compound expansion of 174 nhp, single shaft. passage leith for london. ub 26 fired torpede but missed. submarine went alongside and placed scuttling charges which failed to sink the ship. later torpedoed and sunk. crew recovered. NO SCOUR. DCS3 HT 4.5MTRS. LENGTH 50MTRS, BEAM 7MTRS. LIES 145/325 DEG, WELL BROKEN BUT GIVING GOOD SONAR SHADOW. ACCEPT SWEPT DEPTH. (GARDLINE SURVEYS, HI 414A). NFA. HH100/351/08 14.3.94 HH100/351/08 14.3.94 DIVED ON IN JULY 1992 IN 544931N, 011412W USING GPS. THOUGHT POSSIBLY TO BE THE TEAL. LIES WITH BOWS N, WELL BROKEN UP AND PARTLY COLLAPSED INWARDS. ONE LARGE BOILER STANDS 3 TO 4MTRS ABOVE SEABED. REMAINDER OF WRECKAGE STANDS ABOUT 2MTRS HIGH. STERN PORTION LIES UPSIDE DOWN. (K A LAWRENCE). NCA. HH100/351/15 28.10.99 HH100/351/15 28.10.99 WK IS WELL BROKEN UP, HAVING COLLAPSED IN ON TOP OF ITSELF. THE STERN SECTION IS RELATIVELY INTACT WITH THE PROPELLER STILL ATTACHED. BOILER AND ENGINE ARE EXPOSED AMONGS A JUMBLE OF STEEL FRAMES AND PLATES WHICH ARE INTERMINGLED WITH PIPES. HIGHEST POINT IS THE BOILER. (R YOUNG, LTR DTD 26.10.99). NCA.
