Shipwreck details

Name: STROMBUS (PART OF)

Length 125 meter, width: 15.9 meter, draught: 9.8, tonnage 6549 ton
Load: coal,flammable liquids and gases

Cause: 12.11.42 built in 1900 by armstrong & whitworth co, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by a/s sevilla, onesimus. passage swansea for antarctic. cargo coal & patent fuel. detonated a german-laid mine. tugs towed to swansea and vessel beached. on 12.11.42 taken to briton ferry for breaking but forecastle broke off, drifted away and capsized and still lies on the seabed. it is possible that none of the vessel arrived for breaking and that the three sections are parts of the entire vessel. dispersed by explosives by cosag diving in 1977. (sibi).

CHAIN SWEPT FOUL 5FT LWST, CLEAR 3FT LWST. SURROUNDING DEPTH 13FT AND GENERAL SURROUNDING DEPTH 10 TO 12FT LWST. WRECKAGE EXTENDS 200FT. 2 MAJOR PORTIONS OF WK NORTH AND SOUTH OF EACH OTHER. HIGH SPOTS ARE BOILERS AND MACHINERY. CONSIDERED THIS TO BE PART OF NORWEGIAN TANKER STROMBUS. (TH). INS SW 0FTHM 3FT G CAN BUOY GPFL(2)G, 10SEC, RARFL, 137DEG,400FT FROM WK.
