Shipwreck details

Name: STROMBUS (PART OF)(PROBABLY)

Length 125 meter, width: 15.9 meter, draught: 9.8, tonnage 6549 ton
Load: coal,flammable liquids and gases

Cause: 12.11.42 built in 1900 by armstrong & whitworth co, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by a/s sevilla, onesimus. passage swansea for antarctic. cargo coal & patent fuel. detonated a german-laid mine. tugs towed to swansea and vessel beached. on 12.11.42 taken to briton ferry for breaking but forecastle broke off, drifted away and capsized and still lies on the seabed. it is possible that none of the vessel arrived for breaking and that the three sections are parts of the entire vessel. dispersed by explosives by cosag diving in 1977. (sibi).

H1934/78 27.3.81 SMALL AMOUNT OF WRECKAGE WITH KEEL 1MTR HIGH LOCATED IN 513438N, 035837W [OGB]. SHOWN AS ST D 1.5MTRS ON FAIR SHEET - K8588/1. (HMS FOX HI 53/79). AMEND TO ST DRIES 1.5MTRS. BR STD. HH214/430/04 29.4.03 WK HAS BEEN DISTURBED AND MAY HAVE MOVED SLIGHTLY. A POST PROTRUDING 2.5MTRS ABOVE THE MAIN HULL HAS BEEN OBSERVED. (TH, FAX DTD 28.4.03). AMEND TO ST DRIES 2.5MTRS.

- NM 2443/03. HH214/430/04 23.5.03 ANGLEBAR PROTRUSION ON WK HAS BEEN CUT. NOW DRIES 1MTR IN GEN DEPTH DRIES 0.5MTR. (TH FAX DTD 16.5.03). NCA. HH214/430/04 23.5.03 NOW ST DRIES 1.0MTR. (TH NM 15/03).
