Shipwreck details

Name: STAG 5 (PROBABLY)

Length 28 meter, width: 6.1 meter, draught: 3.2, tonnage 148 ton

Cause: ex- wellington, built 1897 by b cummings & ellis, inverkeithing, with 2 cylinder compound engine of 490hp, 1 boiler, single shaft. machinery by j cran & co., leith. owned at time of loss by france, fenwick tyne & wear co. ltd. stag was assisting 6 other tugs in towing newly built 7,585ton ss city of manchester from wallsend for sunderland when a force 8 westerly gale drove the ss sideways pulling over the stag, which sank with loss of 4 of 6 crew. photo of vessel.
