Cause: 23.8.40 torpedoed by german submarine u 57 on 23.8.40, was taken in tow but sank on 27.8.40 between pladda pt & holy island. vessel, built 1919, was en-route from glasgow to baltimore & was owned at time of loss by the saint line.
