Name: SPERRBRECHER 178

Length 110 meter, width: 15 meter, tonnage 1236 ton

Cause: Built in 1925 by deutsche werke at, kiel as mv gauss for neptun dampfschffahrt-gesellschart, bremen. requistioned in 1942 and convetered to sperrbrecher 187, entering service later that year. equiped with noisemaker, induction loop, paravanes, 1 x 37mm & 8 x 220 anti-aircraft guns. together with sp 144 (ex-dutch beijerland) was escorting a convoy from boulogne along the french coast. intercepted by a flotilla of allided destroyers and was torpedoed midships by hms whitshed. (diver magazine, nov 2012).
