Cause: built by harland & wolff on the clyde in 1930. owned at time of loss by the peninsular & orient steam navigation co. five boilers, single quadruple expansion engine, single screw. damaged during air attack by german aircraft and caught fire. sank the following day while under tow and after an explosion. was on passage london to hong kong with 9000 tons general cargo.
