(D OF C (N) - NCP 53041/68. H1288/74/291 28.10.74 NO SUBMARINE FOUND DESPITE MANY DRIFT DIVES IN THIS AREA. (DR M J O'KANE, 10.10.74). 4.10.82 SUB REPORTED TO BE WELL KNOWN LOCALLY AND TO LIE ABOUT 300YDS N OF PHONIX UNIT - JUST N OF OXWICH POINT AND INTO CURVE OF BAY. THOUGHT NOW TO BE ALMOST COVERED ENTIRELY WITH SAND. (E GILES, TELECON 2.10.82). H3840/86 20.2.89 DRYING STEEL HULK WHICH DRIES 3.1MTRS OBSERVED IN CHARTED POSN. CONTROL UNDER CLIFFS IN THIS BAY INADEQUATE FOR GOOD FIX. WELL-KNOWN LOCALLY AND CLEARLY VISIBLE BELOW HALF TIDE. RETAIN AS CHARTED. (HMS BEAGLE, HI 359). NCA. HH100/351/14 28.4.99 MT SOLOR WAS TORPEDOED 30M SW OF BARDSEY ISLAND WHILST IN CONVOY HX332. REMAINED AS THE CENTRE OF A HUNT BY 21ST ESCORT GROUP UNTIL TUGS TOOK HER IN TOW TO MILFORD HAVEN. WAS DISCOVERED AT ST ANN'S HEAD TO BE HOLED IN THE ENGINE ROOM AND LIABLE TO SINK WITHOUT WARNING. THE RESCUE TUG 'STORM KING' BEACHED HER IN OXWICH BAY ON 29.1.1945 IN 5132.98N, 0408.75W [OGB]. ACCEPTED AS A TOTAL LOSS AND ON 15.3.1945 THE FWD TWO-THIRDS WAS REFLOATED AND TAKEN TO BRITON FERRY TO BE SCRAPPED. THE STERN PORTION WAS TO HAVE REMAINED AT OXWICH UNTIL JULY 1953 WHEN IT WAS DUE TO BE SALVAGED FOR SCRAP, HOWEVER RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE SALVAGE OPERATION NEVER TOOK PLACE. (NAVAL HISTORICAL BRANCH). SEP 2017/000199013 12.1.18 EXAM'D 25.08.17; IN 5133.007N, 0408.805W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH DRYING 1.87MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 4MTRS, LENGTH 72.3MTRS, WIDTH 28.5MTRS, HEIGHT 6.2MTRS, ORIENTATION 100/280 DEGS. WRECK LIES LARGELY IN ONE PIECE AND THE SHOALEST SECTIONS OF THE WRECK ARE EXPOSED AT LOW WATER. (GARDLINE, HI 1502). AMEND DW DRYING 1.9MTRS IN REVISED POSN.
