Cause: believed to have been sunk after being attacked by aircraft and later by several ships. built 1910 by nylands vaerkstyed, christiana. owned at time of loss by akties, manchester. screw, triple-expansion engines, 152hp. passage swansea for odde. torpedoed and sunk by u-105. (sibi).positional analysis: the wreck lies 5.5nm to the se of the position given in war losses (1990) and in the ktb of u105. the wreck is known to havedrifted for over an hour after initially being hit (ktb). wind was from the nw, so the wreck would be expected to have drifted se.dimensional analysis: sarpfos was 77.54m x 11.93m (lloyd's register 1916-17). this is consistent with the dimensions ofthis wreck site.archival analysis: u105's ktb states the ship was hit twice, with a gap of 40 minutes between shots. it drifted for 60 minutes before sinking. themaster's account shows the ship was initially hit port side by engine room and the ship was abandoned. the crew escaped into an sv which made off. it was not seen to sink. cargo was coal (tna adm 137/1514).
