Cause: 28.12.56 ex-hms olive, minesweeping trawler, built in 1940 by hall russell, aberdeen. sold out of service in 1948 to a swedish company, renamed 'samba' and coverted to carrying fuel oil. passage rotterdam for odda. reported leaking & without power in bad weather. drifted for two days while various attempts to tow her failed. abandoned, crew rescued & eventually grounded on rocks at ruggen, ness of sound on 28.12.56. no sign of vessel on following day. presumed to have broken up & sunk in deep water. FURTHER DOWN SLOPE IN GEN DEPTH 35MTRS IS THE LARGELY INTACT FOREPEAK ON ITS PORT SIDE WITH A LARGE TANK BEYOND IT. PHOTO OF VESSEL.
