Cause: built in 1908 by j caird & co, greenock. owned at time of loss by the p & o steam nivigation co ltd. six boilers, twin quadruple expansion engines of 1535 hp, twin shaft. 1 x 4.7 inch gun. passage london for bombay. torpedoed by ub-40. 15 lives lost. (sibi).

IT IS STILL POSSIBLE TO READ THE IMPRINT LEFT BEHIND BY THE REMOVAL OF THE BRASS NAME PLATE LETTERS AROUND HER STERN. SHE LIES ON PORT SIDE ON HER BEAM ENDS IN APPROX 140FT OF WATER WITH APPROX 90FT OVER HER HIGHEST POINT. THE DECK IS ALMOST VERTICAL TO THE SEABED. BOTH PROPS HAVE BEEN REMOVED SOME MINOR SALVAGE HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT. THE WRECK IS IN ONE PIECE AND IS MOST SUBSTANTIAL. (P STREETON, 2.8.77).
