Shipwreck details

Name: PRUNELLE

Length 47.5 meter, width: 7.9 meter, draught: 4.3, tonnage 578 ton
Load: natural fibres and materials in general: unprocessed and products

Cause: built in 1874 in malmo. owned at time of loss by the shipping controller (h w & c m ezard). compound engines of 65 rhp for 8 knots. the captain and 11 crew were killed. (dods). torpedoed and sunk by german submarine ub 34. (der kreig zur see). passage tilbury to dundee, cargo 500 tons jute. torpedo struck the engine room on the port side. the captain and 12 of the crew were killed at once. the vessel sank almost immediately, the remaining four crew were rescued. (r young).

(D COX/L BUTTON, 9.10.89). INS AS USC 20MTRS. BR STD. HH090/796/01 7.1.99 EXAM'D 17.7.98 IN 550545.0N, 012617.5W [WGD] USING DGPS. SWEPT CLEAR 19.9, FOUL 20.3MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 20.3 IN GEN DEPTH 24.5MTRS. NO SCOUR. DCS3 HT 3.5MTRS. LENGTH 57MTRS, WIDTH 15MTRS. LIES 130/310 DEGS. IN TWO PIECES WITH DEBRIS BETWEEN. LOCAL DIVERS CONFIRM THIS TO BE THE 'ELISE'. BR STD.POSITIONS BELOW THIS POINT ARE IN DEGREES, MINUTES AND DECIMALS HH100/351/14 15.1.99 LOCATED IN 5505.777N, 0126.276W [WGD] HAS BEEN POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED AS 'PRUNELLE'. THE BELL AND THE ENGINE MAKER'S PLATE HAVE BEEN RECOVERED. LIES IN 28-30MTRS IN TWO HALVES, WITH THE BOWS 50MTRS TO THE SOUTH OF THE MAIN WRECK. (C WILSON, LTR DTD 11.12.98). NCA.
