Cause: built in 1907 by w gray & co ltd. owned at time of loss by hall brothers, cairns, noble & co. two boilers, triple expansion engine, single shaft. requistioned by admiralty as a collier. passage the tyne for dunkirk. cause of sinking was possibly a mine or, as bot inquiry found, vessel struck whitby rock. (sibi).
