Cause: built in 1903 by j c tecklenborg a g. owned at time of loss by f laeisz & co. a four masted barque. passage hamburg for valparaiso. sank following collision with french ss phryne, 2817 tons. sank very rapidly. 30 men lost, 4 recovered. (dods).

- NM 888/96. HH100/351/21 9.10.03 DIVED IN LISTED POSN. THIS IS THE PANGANI, IDENTIFIED BY THE BELL IN 1997. STERN IS INTACT AND STANDS SOME 12MTRS HIGH WITH A FALLEN MAST ACROSS IT. NEAR MIDSHIPS ON THE PORT SIDE THE SOLIDIFIED CONTENTS OF MANY BARRELS HAVE ROLLED OUT ONTO THE SEABED. BOW SECTION IS DETACHED AND PARTLY INTACT. POTTERY MARKED: 'MAASTRICHT, HOLLAND' LIES WITH THE HULL. (N R CHIPCHASE & I TAYLOR, SKIN DEEP DIVING). NCA.
