Cause: vessel, built in 1927 by blyth sb co. ltd, glasgow, was torpedoed and sunk by a german submarine 19m off the longships whilst on passage from halifax, nova scotia, for manchester. all 53 crew survived. (ll ww2 & shipwreck index of the british isles).
